Addleshaw Goddard (AG), which has offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, has reported another year of strong growth in Scotland, with Scottish revenues increasing by 17 per cent during past financial year, contributing to the firm’s record financial performance.
Firm-wide revenues also increased by 17 per cent to £644 million, while distributable profits rose by 17 per cent to £262 million, marking a ninth consecutive year of revenue and profit growth.
The year saw Addleshaw Goddard continue to invest heavily in its Scottish business, recently announcing a record 26 promotions across its fee-earning and business services teams, alongside welcoming a new intake of trainees and newly qualified solicitors.
The firm also strengthened its senior ranks through strategic partner appointments, including Fiona Cameron in finance, Ingrid McGhee in employment, Stacey Cassidy in construction and Gillian Woodward in construction litigation.
The strong Scottish performance contributed to another record year for the wider firm, which recently expanded its international footprint to 22 offices by opening in Amsterdam. The year also saw Addleshaw Goddard named UK Law Firm of the Year at both the British Legal Awards and Chambers Europe Awards.
High-profile matters the firms has advised on in Scotland over the past year have included: advising CMAL, the ferries and ports agency, on the acquisition of Ardrossan Harbour and the purchase of two new freighter ferries; advising ScotRail on the replacement of its Intercity train fleet; and advising SSE on its £22 billion upgrade to the electricity network.
Alan Shanks, head of Scotland at Addleshaw Goddard, said: “This has been another exceptional year for our Scottish business. Revenue growth of 17 per cent reflects the strength of our client relationships, the quality of our people and the increasing scale and complexity of the work we are undertaking across Scotland, the UK and internationally.
“What is particularly pleasing is that this success has enabled us to continue investing in our people and our future. We have made a record 26 promotions across Scotland, welcomed a new group of newly qualified solicitors and trainees, added four outstanding partners to our Scottish practice, completed moves into exceptional new offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and launched our landmark partnership with the Genesis Scottish Open.
“These investments demonstrate our confidence in Scotland and our long-term commitment to the market. We have ambitious growth plans, a fantastic team and a client base that continues to trust us with some of their most important opportunities and challenges. Supported by the firm’s continued international expansion and investment, we are exceptionally well positioned for the future.”
