Legal sector rallies behind Lawscot Foundation by donating £6,200
Scotland’s legal sector has rallied behind aspiring lawyers facing socioeconomic barriers by donating more than £6,200 to social mobility charity the Lawscot Foundation.
Delegates at the Law Society of Scotland’s Annual Conference last week gave £3,114 to the Lawscot Foundation, with those funds generously matched by Amiqus, Law Society Strategic Partner from 2018-2026 and long-term supporter of LawscotTech.
Ally Thomson, chair of the Lawscot Foundation’s Fundraising Committee, spoke at the conference about the charity’s 10th anniversary and the growing demand for support, with the Foundation having to turn away more than 80 applicants each year.
Mr Thomson said: “We’re blown away by the generosity that’s been shown at the Annual Conference by delegates and Amiqus. These donations will financially support two Foundation scholars for a full year of their studies.
“No student should be denied the opportunity to pursue a legal career because of their background or personal circumstances. With more students applying for support from the Foundation every year, donations and in-kind support are so important.
“We’re extremely grateful to Amiqus for matching all donations made at the Annual Conference. Corporate sponsors make such an enormous difference to the Foundation and therefore to the future shape of Scotland’s legal professions.”
Callum Murray, CEO of Amiqus said: “Regardless of who you are, where you’re from or your personal circumstances, pursuing a career within the Scottish legal profession should be as accessible as it is aspirational. We’re pleased to support the important work of the Lawscot Foundation over the long term.”
