Lawscot Foundation opens mentor applications to support aspiring lawyers

The Lawscot Foundation is seeking Scottish solicitors to provide mentoring support for aspiring lawyers facing socioeconomic barriers.

The mentoring programme is an essential part of the Foundation’s offering to the young people it supports in studying Scots law and pursuing a legal career.

Full training and ongoing support will be provided for the successful applicants who are matched with a Lawscot Foundation student.

Chair of the Lawscot Foundation, Kay McCorquodale said: “Our mentoring scheme is one of most valuable parts of our support scheme, giving our students access to advice and knowledge which they would otherwise not have access to.

“When you don’t have any connection to the profession, knowing what to expect in the workplace or how to handle applications can be very daunting. Our mentors offer practical advice and insights from their professional experience and can really boost students’ confidence and help to demystify the legal world.

“Our mentors are the backbone of our work and make a considerable difference to the lives of our scholars – as well as learning new skills themselves as a mentor. If you think you could help, I’d strongly encourage you apply.”

Mentoring applications close at 12 noon on Wednesday 26 August. More information about the application process and the scheme can be found on the Lawscot Foundation’s website.
