Lawscot Foundation co-founder Christine McLintock is stepping down after 10 years as inaugural chair, with two experienced trustees to take over the charity’s leadership.

Retired solicitor Kay McCorquodale, who has been a Lawscot Foundation trustee since October 2023, will become the foundation’s second chair as the charity celebrates its 10th anniversary supporting law students facing socioeconomic barriers.

Debbie McIlwraith Cameron will provide support in the newly created role of vice-chair. The director of charities and third sector at Lindsays has been a foundation trustee since January 2024 and helped with the charity’s 2016 establishment.

Ms McLintock said: “It has been a huge honour to lead the Lawscot Foundation and to see the lives of so many aspiring lawyers changed for the better because of our work. The Foundation’s 10th birthday is the perfect moment for me to stand aside.

“The foundation remains in excellent hands under the new leadership team of Kay and Debbie. Both have contributed strongly to the charity’s achievements in recent years and are passionate about its mission to widen access to the legal profession.”

Ms McCorquodale said: “On behalf of the Board and current and former Foundation scholars, I’d like to thank Christine for her enormous contribution to the charity and wider legal sector. It’s a privilege to have this opportunity to build on her legacy.

“As the first and only member of my family to attend university, I appreciate how much the foundation’s help means for the talented young people it supports. Debbie and I are deeply committed to building on the charity’s achievements.”

Ms McIlwraith Cameron said: “I jumped at the chance to step into this newly created role of vice-chair and am looking forward to working with Kay and the other trustees to continue opening opportunities regardless of postcode or circumstances.”

The Foundation’s new leadership will begin in their roles from 18 May.
