CMS is to host a free breakfast seminar next month which navigates the UK government’s decision on the Review of Electricity Market Arrangements (REMA) and its wider implications for the energy sector.

The event, co-hosted with management consultancy Baringa, will take place on 23 September at CMS’s Edinburgh office. It follows July’s publication of the REMA Summer Update where the UK government announced it would retain a single national wholesale electricity market price and rule out zonal pricing for Great Britain. It also set out the implementation of reformed national pricing with a package of reforms to improve the efficiency and coordination of the power system, aiming to support a transition to a renewables-based future.

The CMS/Baringa seminar will explore the implications of the REMA update as well as recently announced changes to the CfD (Contract for Difference) scheme and its potential impact on the UK’s energy landscape and investment in renewable energy projects.

The breakfast event will also focus on emerging reformed national market pricing design, analyse what it means for future energy projects and engage in a forward-looking discussion on investment, innovation and regulatory change.

Thomas Forman, a partner in the Energy & Climate Change team at CMS, said: “We are delighted to be co-hosting this free to attend seminar with Baringa next month and welcome those who operate within the energy sector to join us for what we are hoping will be an informative and insightful session over breakfast.

“It will focus on REMA’s Summer Update as well as other recent government policy announcements on the CfD which will shape the future of the UK’s electricity market. Through the insights of our expert speakers, we will set out the changing nature of the marketplace and discuss how regulatory change is likely to influence investment and innovation across renewable energy projects.”
