Bursary uplift boosts support for Lawscot Foundation students

The Lawscot Foundation has increased its annual bursary.

As the latest intake of Lawscot Foundation scholars are set to start their university studies in September, the charity’s trustees have agreed to provide existing and future Lawscot Foundation students with an annual bursary of £3,000, up from £2,750.

The Foundation’s trustees have confirmed that full scholarships starting with the 2025-26 academic year, including financial support, mentoring, and access to industry events, have been awarded to 12 students offered an LLB place, as well as mentoring and access to events for an additional 11 scholars.

Chair of the Lawscot Foundation, Christine McLintock, said: “Every year we receive impressive applications from people who have overcome significant challenges to be offered a place at university. Unfortunately, without our support taking up that place would not be feasible.

“In light of the financial pressures our students are facing and the continued high levels of inflation, the trustees and I have agreed it is the right time to increase the bursary we offer. We cannot thank our generous sponsors enough; without their support this would not be possible.

“Our mentoring, industry events and financial support will ensure our new students get the best start to their legal careers. I know we are all looking forward to watching them flourish as they start their studies.”

Since being established in 2016, the Lawscot Foundation has provided bursary support to 77 students, including this year’s intake, plus mentoring and in-kind support to 21 non-bursary scholars.
