Bloomsbury Professional supports Lawscot Foundation with free textbooks

Bloomsbury Professional has once again supported Lawscot Foundation students by providing free textbooks for the fifth consecutive year.

Through their partnership, Bloomsbury Professional supplies each student accepted onto the Lawscot Foundation programme with over 30 textbooks to support their studies throughout their four-year Scots law degree.

The textbooks would otherwise cost each student approximately £1,500, providing a significant additional benefit alongside the Lawscot Foundation’s scholarship packages.

The foundation has two sponsorship categories to support solicitors facing socioeconomic barriers. The charity’s scholars and extended scholars receive mentoring, networking and work experience opportunities with their full-time scholars also receiving an annual bursary of £3,000.

The titles provided by Bloomsbury include The Scottish Legal System by Lorna Macfarlane; Property, Trusts and Succession by George Gretton and Andrew Steven; MacQueen and Thomson on Contract Law in Scotland by Hector MacQueen; and Thomson’s Family Law in Scotland by Katy MacFarlane.

Lawscot Foundation spokesperson, Amber Shadle said: “We are very grateful to Bloomsbury for continuing their support of the Lawscot Foundation. In our fifth year working together, it continues to be a central part of our offering, alongside our bursary and development opportunities.

“They generously provide both our full-time scholars and extended scholars with textbooks, ensuring all our aspiring lawyers facing socioeconomic barriers don’t have the additional financial pressures of purchasing essential textbooks.

“With Bloomsbury’s support we are giving our law students the best possible foundation for their studies. Without them, and of course our generous sponsors, we would not be able to carry out the invaluable work the Lawscot Foundation does to improve accessibility into the legal sector.”

Karen Reid, sales and marketing manager for Bloomsbury Professional Scotland, said: “We are delighted to support the Lawscot Foundation and its students by providing free textbooks throughout their four years of study. At Bloomsbury, we want to be involved in and support the communities and Scottish legal profession where our books play such an important role in education and professional development. We are proud to continue our support of the Lawscot Foundation and to play a part in such a worthwhile initiative. We wish all their students every success in their studies.”

On receiving the textbooks, Lawscot Foundation scholar Rebecca Stuart said: “I am very grateful to Bloomsbury for the textbooks. The content has been really useful in helping me with my studies and having physical copies has made a real difference to my preparation for exams.”
