And finally… learned fiend
A senior judge in Pakistan has been removed from office after it emerged he obtained his law degree through fraud.
Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri served on Islamabad High Court for five years before the invalidity of his undergraduate degree at the University of Karachi came to light.
In a judgment published on Monday, the court explained that Jahangiri’s appointment was unlawful due to the invalid degree, Dawn reports.
The ex-judge was found to have sat an exam using a fake enrolment number and was barred for cheating – but later defied the ban to sit the exam again under a different name and using another student’s enrolment number.
The principal of the Government Islamia Law College told the court that Jahangiri had never in fact been admitted to the university.
Having never obtained a valid law degree required for his enrolment as a lawyer, the court held that his judicial appointment was void ab initio.
Jahangiri is continuing to pursue separate legal proceedings against his removal from the bench, which took place in December 2025.
