Our large Private Client team acts for a wide range of clients, providing a full range of private client services including all aspects of trust and executry administration, the preparation of Wills and Powers of Attorney, tax and succession planning and other private client related matters such as the administration of the financial affairs of elderly clients in residential or nursing care.
The role
We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Associate or Senior Associate to join our ambitious, client-focused, Chambers Band 1-ranked Private Client team in Dundee. You’ll be part of a close-knit, highly collaborative group that prides itself on working together to deliver exceptional results. The team includes four experienced Private Client Partners who bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise, offering invaluable support and guidance to help you thrive in your role.
This position involves regular client contact, so the successful candidate should be committed to providing an excellent level of client care. In addition to strong technical skills, you should be able to communicate confidently, clearly, and want to be part of a firm that invests in your development while offering the support of a highly experienced team.
Key responsibilities include:
• Provision of a quality service to clients in dealing with Executries, the preparation of Wills, preparation of Powers of Attorney, providing advice on succession, estate planning and trust law, administration of trusts and guardianships and the financial affairs of elderly clients in permanent residential care.
• Be able to do the necessary Accounts and to have an awareness of all tax implications in relation to Executries and Wills.
• Generate satisfactory level of fee income in accordance with set fee income targets, record all time accurately and fee promptly during and/or on completion of transactions.
• Adhere to monthly fee earner certificate process.
• Keep up to date with developments in the law and regulatory requirements.
• Take part in regular departmental business meetings.
• Training and supervision of less experienced staff as required.
Key experience and skills required:
• Sound legal knowledge with in-depth experience in that area of law and a high level of technical competence.
• Ability to develop positive working relationships across the firm and with clients; gain the respect of colleagues.
• Ability to assess clients’ needs and offer practical guidance.
• Act as a positive ambassador for the Firm both internally and externally.
• Ability to work largely unsupervised.
• Ability to meet fee targets and achieve realisation rates.
• Work effectively with other team members and is able to supervise the work of those less qualified.
• Take a proactive approach to matter administration and completes monthly file review process for all matters where marked as fee earner on file.
• Proven networking skills and willingness to develop a client base.
• A STEP qualification would be advantageous but not necessary.
This is a client-facing role that will be primarily based in our Dundee office. After an initial onboarding period, we offer the flexibility of hybrid working, subject to business needs and client requirements.
Whilst this role is ideally 9am-5pm Monday-Friday (35 hours per week) we are open to considering flexible or part time working to suit the requirements of the business.
