Associate

Kennedys are looking for an experienced associate to join our expanding Scottish Liability Team.

We seek applications from candidates with personal injury experience including, but not limited to, EL/PL, motor and counter fraud. Our ideal candidate will have experience of both long and short tail occupational disease claims, including noise induced hearing loss, asbestos related claims, spinal and upper limb disorders, and injuries resulting from exposure to hazardous chemicals. We also welcome applications from candidates with experience of historic abuse claims. Experience of representing the interests of public and third sector organisations, and their insurers, would be an advantage.

The candidate will work on a variety of interesting and challenging claims both in the Sheriff Court and Court of Session. Experience in Sheriff Court advocacy and the instruction of Counsel in Court of Session cases is preferable.

We are seeking a candidate with the ability to deal with sensitive and complex cases, with cases involving multiple defenders or insurers, and with cases presenting reputational issues which affect current day employers and service providers, public and private, and their insurers, as a consequence of historic practices.

We are seeking a candidate who is analytical, organised, and accustomed to working to deadlines, has strong advocacy skills and pays close attention to detail. The candidate requires to prioritise provision of accurate and up to date management information.

Required experience

  • Litigation experience of personal injury defence work
  • Experience of assisting on/handling large cases in a team environment
  • Strong written communication skills
