The University of Strathclyde Mediation Clinic is to host a major conference in March.

The third UK Mediation Clinic Conference will be held in the university’s new state-of-the-art Teaching and Learning Hub.

The programme is packed with speakers and workshops on all things mediation. Keynote speaker, Tony Allen, is probably the UK’s best known mediator specialising in clinical negligence disputes and a member of CEDR for over 25 year. His topic is “Mediation in the Shadow of the Law: Sunlight or Shadow.”

Workshops include “What we Learn from our own Practice”; “The Consumer Voice”; “How to prevent ‘a slip ‘twixt the cup and the lip’! How to encourage parties to mediate after a court referral to the Mediation Clinic”; and “Working with Lawyers in Mediation.”

There will be a presentation from Sheriff Derek Livingston, one or the early adopters of referral to mediation in simple procedure, while John Sturrock KC will set out the sustainable vision of the World Mediators Alliance on Climate Change’s Green Pledge.

The conference will be of interest to academics, students of law and dispute/conflict resolution, lawyers, judges and court administrators – and of course, mediators. It is followed by a drinks reception sponsored by Anderson Strathern.
