University of Glasgow in-house legal team trainee solicitor Holli McGuff has been named Rising Star of the Year at the Association of University Legal Practitioners Awards.

The award invites those within the legal profession and working within the university environment to nominate a junior member of their team who has made a significant impact to their institution and who can demonstrate excellence in their contribution.

The award is open to all newly qualified lawyers with three years or less post-qualified experience, and paralegals, legal apprentices/trainees and assistants with less than three years’ experience in their current role.

The university said it was delighted that Holli was “not only shortlisted but was chosen as one of the two 2025 winners. Holli joined the team as a trainee solicitor with no experience of working in Higher Education.

“She has since shown an aptitude for the work that predicts her continued success upon qualifying as a solicitor this month. She has proactively expanded her role as a trainee through the different opportunities that present themselves while working at a university, in turn finding herself involved in litigation, hearings, and the delivery of tailored training. She is an essential and highly valued member of our team who we look forward to continue working with.”
