Trio of new calls at Optimum Advocates

Chris Farrell, Eve Gilchrist and Iain Cahill

Optimum Advocates has welcomed Chris Farrell, Eve Gilchrist and Iain Cahill to the stable today.

Mr Farrell calls to the bar after 12 years as a solicitor. He practised primarily in criminal litigation. He has extensive experience of trial advocacy in a wide range of matters, including serious violence, catastrophic road traffic collisions, sexual offences and the misuse of drugs. Outside of court, he has significant experience in the investigation of High Court cases of national interest, with a particular focus on homicide, including child death, and deaths arising out of professional negligence. He has also acted for parents in children’s referral proceedings.

Ms Gilchrist calls to the bar as a Lord Hope scholar. She trained at a prominent UK firm, gaining experience throughout the litigation teams including personal injury and professional negligence. Upon qualification as a solicitor, she worked in the health & safety team, involved with the defence of road traffic prosecutions and HSE investigations as well as fatal accident inquiries. During devilling, she extended her knowledge of criminal trials, fatal accident inquiries and personal injury work, and gained new exposure to public law. Since calling, she maintains interests across both criminal and civil practice.

Mr Cahill calls to the bar with 12 years’ litigation experience, including 11 years at Levy & McRae Solicitors LLP. His practice focuses on criminal, regulatory, inquiry and reparation work, where he brings extensive advocacy experience from appearances in criminal trials, fatal accident inquiries, misconduct proceedings, regulatory hearings and tribunals. He has represented and advised a wide range of professional clients and companies including members of the Scottish Police Federation, the Association of Scottish Police Superintendents, the Fostering Network, the Prison Officers’ Association (Scotland) and the Air Line Pilots Association. He was also the named legal representative for a senior police officer in the Sheku Bayoh Public Inquiry.

Practice manager Angela Bath said: “I am looking forward to working with Chris, Eve and Iain as they begin their career at the bar. They are all a very welcome addition to our Stable.”
