Trainee solicitors begin legal careers with Watermans

Hussain Iqbal and Fyza Aslam

Watermans has welcomed two legal trainees to its office in Glasgow. Fyza Aslam and Hussain Iqbal join the 23-strong dispute resolution team to begin their two-year legal traineeship, where they will handle their own caseload and gain first-hand litigation experience.

John Dillon, director and head of dispute resolution at Watermans, said: “Glasgow has a strong pool of talent to choose from, and we are thrilled to welcome Fyza and Hussain to the team as they start their legal traineeships. The new trainees will compliment and add further depth to the strength of our existing team within the firm.

“Supporting trainee solicitors has always been a key part of our business strategy, and our goal is to ensure that Fyza and Hussain develop their skills to prepare them for the world of work post-traineeship.

“Every year, our intake of trainees brings fresh perspectives and new ideas to the team, which is enormously valuable to all of us. Fyza and Hussain encapsulate our company values of authenticity, approachability and ambition, and we are excited to watch them grow over the next couple of years.”

Commenting on the beginning of her traineeship, Ms Aslam said: “Prior to starting my traineeship at Watermans, I gained a year of practical legal experience as a litigation paralegal and I can confirm - no two days are the same in
a legal career! I am looking forward to taking on new challenges, building my confidence, and continuing my journey towards qualification as a solicitor with Watermans.”

Mr Iqbal added: “There is always something new to learn, and fresh challenges to get stuck into, and I am excited for that. I have had the opportunity to get involved from day one, and having my own caseload means I can keep building my confidence and taking on more responsibility and learnings as I go”.
