Sir Tim Eicke KC

The honour reflects his distinguished career and his exceptional contributions to the advancement and protection of human rights. He returned to Essex Court Chambers in full-time practice as counsel and arbitrator in September 2025, following nine years’ service as the judge in respect of the UK at the European Court of Human Rights. 

As the official extended citation notes, Sir Tim has profoundly influenced the development of human rights law across Europe and given exceptional service, and benefited the UK’s reputation, through the consistent quality of his legal opinions. He has also been a pre-eminent figure in the development of the law in the digital space, as well as having leading knowledge and expertise of the principles of public international and human rights law.
