Thorntons welcomes record 23 trainees

Thorntons has welcomed 23 new trainee solicitors, its largest intake to date, with placements spanning eight offices from Inverness to Edinburgh.

The cohort will undertake a structured two-year training programme, gaining experience across the wide range of legal work delivered by Thorntons.

New trainee solicitor Callum Gibb, who has joined the intellectual property and data protection team in Dundee, said: “I applied to Thorntons because the people I met took the time to get to know me, and that told me it was a place I could grow in rather than just get by in.

“The range of work is what stood out. The firm blends established legal practice with new technology, and over the next two years I want to build real expertise and find where I can add the most value for clients.”

Fiona Stewart, head of talent acquisition at Thorntons, said: “Taking on our largest ever group of trainees is a deliberate investment in Scottish legal talent and in the communities where we work. Training the next generation is central to how we build the firm and to the service our clients receive.

“We’ll support this group through qualification and, we hope, into long careers with Thorntons. It’s an exciting time to be joining the firm, and we’re proud to invest in the next generation of Scottish legal talent.”
