Thorntons has appointed two new legal directors to its Inverness office.

Gary Munro (commercial real estate) and Susan Bird (residential property), bring with them extensive experience across the Scottish legal market and deep knowledge of all aspects of the local property landscape.

Mr Munro joins Thorntons from Freeths, advising on a broad range of real estate matters including acquisitions, disposals and development projects across the UK. Dual-qualified in Scotland and England and Wales, he has significant experience managing complex property portfolios and supporting clients across various sectors, with particular expertise in the hospitality and leisure space.

Ms Bird joins from Munro & Noble, where she was a partner specialising in residential conveyancing and crofting law. With more than 15 years’ experience, she has advised clients across all aspects of residential transactions, with additional expertise in the private client sector.

Mr Munro said: “Thorntons has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality legal advice combined with a genuinely client-focused approach. The firm’s continued investment in Inverness and the wider Highlands presents a compelling opportunity, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the growth of the commercial real estate team and supporting clients across the region and beyond.”

Susan Bird said: “Having worked in the Highlands for many years, I’ve seen first-hand the evolving needs of clients in the residential property market. Thorntons’ full-service model and commitment to the local community make it an exciting place to be, and I’m delighted to be joining the team at such a positive time in its development.”

Paul Adams, partner at Thorntons, said: “Gary and Susan are both highly respected practitioners with strong track records and deep roots in the Highlands. Their combined experience further enhances both our commercial and residential property offerings in Inverness, enabling us to support a growing client base with a comprehensive and responsive service.”
