Terra Firma Chambers recognised for ‘Market-Leading Expertise’ in latest Chambers & Partners Guide

Terra Firma Chambers has once again been recognised for its “market-leading expertise” in the latest edition of the Chambers & Partners UK Bar Guide 2027, published this week.

The “highly acclaimed stable” retained Band 1 rankings in five core practice areas: Agriculture & Rural Affairs, Planning & Environmental Law, Licensing, Private Client and Tax. Chambers also recognised Terra Firma’s strength in Employment and Real Estate Litigation, awarding Band 2 rankings in both areas.

In total, members of Terra Firma Chambers received 29 individual rankings, including 15 Band 1 rankings, underlining the depth and breadth of expertise available across Chambers.

A particular highlight is Terra Firma’s 13th consecutive Band 1 ranking for Planning & Environment, with clients and peers praising the stable’s “strength and depth in planning and consenting matters” and describing it as the “go-to stable for complex environmental work.”

Terra Firma remains the only stable at the Scottish bar ranked in the fields of Agriculture & Rural Affairs, Licensing and Private Client. Among the individual honours, James Findlay KC received a new Band 1 ranking for Real Estate Litigation, complementing his existing Band 1 rankings in Licensing and Planning & Environment: “James Findlay KC is probably the best in Scotland. He is brilliant to work with.” James is also ranked for Administrative & Public Law and holds additional rankings in Local Government and Planning for his practice at the bar of England & Wales. Alasdair Burnet KC secured four individual rankings, including Band 1 recognition in Planning & Environment, Product Liability and Real Estate Litigation, together with a Band 2 ranking in Administrative & Public Law: “Alasdair is amongst the best of planning law silks.”

Terra Firma’s clerking team also attracted significant praise from solicitors and clients, who highlighted their responsiveness, professionalism and commitment to service.

Feedback included:

“The clerks are really quick to reply, professional and friendly.”

“They always go above and beyond.”

“The clerking team are great, very responsive, pleasant to deal with and know their advocates really well.”

These latest rankings from Chambers & Partners, along with another strong showing in the recently published Legal 500, reinforces Terra Firma Chambers’ position as one of the leading specialist stables at the Scottish bar, recognised not only for the excellence of its advocates but also for the quality of service provided by its clerking team.
