Thursday 17 February 2022 at 6pm

The Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association (SYLA) are delighted to host a team from the UK Supreme Court who will discuss what life is like working as a judicial assistant.

This event offers the opportunity to learn more about the role of judicial assistant and to hear from those who have experienced life working at the Supreme Court, the work they have been involved in and how this role has changed during the course of the pandemic.

Delegates will hear from:

  • Chris Maile – head of HR at the Supreme Court.
  • Tom Watret – JA to Lord Hodge. He graduated with an LLB from the University of Edinburgh in 2013. He then spent a year as a research assistant at the Scottish Law Commission working with Professor Hector MacQueen on the insurance law reform project, before taking the BCL at the University of Oxford, graduating in 2015. He then converted to English law and trained at Latham & Watkins in London, qualifying into their litigation department in 2019.
  • Caragh Nimmo – formerly JA to Lord Wilson and Lord Hodge between 2016 and 2017. She is now a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers where she practises in public, human rights and equalities law. Prior to coming to the bar, Caragh completed a traineeship in Scotland and practised at the UK Government Legal Department and the Equality and Human Rights Commission. She has an LLM from Harvard Law School, where she was a Kennedy Scholar.

There will also be a Q&A session. Please do feel welcome to submit any questions in advance of the event to mail@syla.co.uk.
