The Scottish Arbitration centre has launched Mediation Rules in advance of it providing an administered mediation service.

The announcement was made during the Edinburgh International Arbitration Festival (ArbFest2025).

The centre launched its Arbitration Rules and administrative services at ICCA Edinburgh in 2022, and the Mediation Rules and related service will add to its offering to the market in Scotland and internationally. The Mediation Rules, following the groundbreaking provisions in the centre’s Arbitration Rules, include innovative articles on green mediation and equality and diversity.

The administration of the Mediation Rules will be overseen by the Court of the Scottish Arbitration centre, with support from registrar Duncan Bagshaw, deputy registrar Rebecca Wyke and the wider centre staff team.

Gillian Carmichael Lemaire, chair of the board of the centre, said: “I am delighted we are publishing our new Mediation Rules. An administrative service to accompany these rules will commence soon.

“Like many international arbitration institutions, we want to offer a broad range of dispute resolution services and consider mediation to be an important method to offer our users in Scotland and across the globe.

“The centre’s principles on diversity, equality and sustainability are built into these new rules but much of our approach to administered mediation will be familiar to those using other mediation rules. We hope that adding mediation to our range of services will assist users and allow for further growth within the centre.”
