The Law Society of Scotland has welcomed a record-breaking number of Scottish solicitors to the legal profession this week in three ceremonies held in Edinburgh.
At the ceremonies which took place at the Signet Library on Monday and Tuesday this week, 161 solicitors were presented with their certificates of enrolment by Law Society president Serena Sutherland.
Those attending the ceremonies were honoured with two guest speakers, Jamila Archibald-Ramage, solicitor at Trip Air Ticketing (UK) Limited and Arlene Gibbs, former Law Society Council member and solicitor at The Highland Council.

Ms Sutherland said: “Many congratulations to our new solicitors! It’s a real honour to get to spend the last two days celebrating your achievements.
“It is very positive to see so much new talent join our profession this week. You all play a vital role in supporting individuals, businesses and communities across Scotland and beyond. I look forward to seeing what contributions you make to our growing sector.”

Law Society chief executive Ben Kemp added: “Congratulations! You’ve put in a lot of hard work to get here and should be very proud of your achievements.”
In back-to-back ceremonies on Monday, Ms Archibald-Ramage told the new solicitors: “I hope you feel proud of what you have achieved, confident in what you have to offer, and excited about what lies ahead. You do not need to have everything figured out. You simply need to keep learning, be willing to take opportunities when they come, and remember that you have something valuable to contribute.”
Joining those being admitted on Tuesday, Ms Gibbs congratulated the new solicitors and said: “Be easy to work alongside and always be kind. We each have the opportunity to make a positive difference to our profession, and looking out for each other is one small way in which we can all do that.”
