The email, highlighted by “a number of members”, claimed that payment of their membership fees is overdue and invited them to reply to the email for further information.

The email features the Law Society logo, the subject line is ‘Your LSS Membership’ and it has been sent from ‘services-newsletters-renewal@centrum.cz’.

The Law Society has encouraged members to be vigilant at all times when communicating via emai.

A message on its website reads: “You should be aware of the risks of cybercrime and be vigilant when engaging with digital platforms or communicating via email.

“As a matter of course, you should look out for telltale signs that an email has been sent as part of a scam.  In this case the sender’s email address is the biggest giveaway that this is a phishing email.

“Legitimate Law Society of Scotland emails include the ‘@lawscot.org.uk’ domain and we inform members directly when they can expect an email from any organisation we are working with.”

Anyone who received the email has been asked not reply to the email or click on any of the links, delete the email and block the sender, then seek further advice from IT support.
