New solicitor advocates granted extended rights of audience
The Law Society of Scotland has granted five new solicitor advocates with rights of audience in a ceremony held at the Court of Session on Thursday 20 August.
The newly appointed solicitor advocates are:
- Kelly Brotherhood, Clyde and Co
- John Callender, Morton Fraser MacRoberts
- Scott Flannigan, Anderson Strathern
- Martin Kotsev, Morton Fraser MacRoberts
- David McGowan, Digby Brown
Joining the four solicitor advocates who were introduced to court last month, the new appointees have extended rights of audience to appear in the Court of Session, the Supreme Court and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.
Law Society president Serena Sutherland invited presiding judge, Lord Malcolm, to administer the Declaration of Allegiance.
Ms Sutherland said: “Many congratulations to our new solicitor advocates. It is an honour to be back in the courts today to celebrate with you and your families.
“Each one of our solicitor advocates has juggled demanding jobs and busy personal lives to ensure they can represent their clients in our highest courts. They should be very proud of themselves.
“As they start this new chapter of their legal careers, the Law Society looks forward to supporting them at every stage.”
