Lawyers and their clients have raised more than £20,000 to help improve the lives of people experiencing mental health issues.

Lindsays encouraged donations to SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) instead of charging fees for wills drafted as part of a special partnership.

And, over the course of two Make A Will Months, the £20,000 barrier has been broken in the money given to Scotland’s national mental health charity.

Donations will directly support SAMH’s sector-leading work, providing vital support services in communities across the country.

Alison McKay, a partner at Lindsays, is one of the lawyers working with SAMH on the initiative.

She said: “We are absolutely thrilled by – and thankful for – the generosity of our clients. Their donations will help make a difference to people’s lives, improving awareness and understanding of mental health issues and ensuring support is there for those who need it.

“None of us knows when we might need to turn to SAMH. The charity’s work is vital in raising awareness about and supporting positive mental health, something we as a firm feel strongly about.”

Through its SAMH Make a Will appointments, Lindsays lawyers waived their regular fees. They instead recommended a donation of £200 to SAMH for an individual will or £300 for a pair of ‘mirror’ wills for couples.

SAMH chief executive Billy Watson said: “Thank you to everyone who took part in Make A Will Month for lending your support to SAMH, and to Lindsays who are one of our longest-standing supporters.

“It’s our ambition that anyone should be able to ask once and get help fast with their mental health. The money raised through the Make A Will initiative will support our work towards this and help us continue to change lives across Scotland.”
