Legal Walks return to raise vital funds
Scotland’s legal community is coming together again to raise funds for free legal support through the annual Legal Walks.
The first of this year’s Legal Walks kicks off in Paisley on Tuesday 29 September and is organised by MJC LAW. The Glasgow Legal Walk will be held on Wednesday 30 September, thanks to The Royal Faculty of Procurators – followed by Dundee on 6 October, organised by Dundee Law School.
Grampian Community Law Centre and Aberdeen Law Project are holding a virtual walk from Aberdeen Sheriff Court to the UK Supreme Court to raise funds for access to justice. The challenge will take place from 2 to 6 November and offers a chance for people all over Scotland to take part. Details of all the walks, how to register and where to donate can be found here.
Legal Walks in Scotland are sponsored by The Law Society of Scotland and The Faculty of Advocates.
“Funds raised in Scotland stay in Scotland. So, when you donate either as an individual or as a firm you can be sure that you are supporting your community,” said Bhavini Bhatt, development director at The Access to Justice Foundation.
The Access to Justice Foundation is the only funder dedicated to increasing free legal support, advice and representation across the UK. The funds we raise help community organisations offer free legal advice. We focus specifically on communities where people are less likely to know about or be able to access legal help.
The grants made this year to Scottish advice providers are largely funded by unclaimed funds from the Guttman v South West Trains case. Donations raised from recent Legal Walks were added to those grants.
