Last chance to stand in SYLA elections

Members wishing to stand for election at the Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association (SYLA) AGM must nominate themselves by Monday evening.

The association’s AGM is taking place on Wednesday 31 May 2023, 6pm, on a hybrid basis, with members invited to take part at Burness Paull’s offices – with refreshments and nibbles provided – or via Zoom.

The president will provide an update for the SYLA year 2022–2023, followed by the treasurer, who will provide a summary of the accounts.

During the AGM, members will elect a new committee for 2023-2024. Candidates may stand for any of the following positions:

  • Non-executive committee member (7 positions available)
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Vice President
  • President (candidates must have completed a full year on the committee to be eligible)

Members wishing to stand for election should apply by Monday 22 May 2023, 8pm to mail@syla.co.uk. Applications received after the deadline will not be processed. Applications are by way of a video, along with a completed nomination form (this should be requested by emailing mail@syla.co.uk).

Those applying for non-executive positions should submit a video of no longer than 45 seconds. For those applying for all other positions, please submit a video of no longer than 60 seconds. Applications should include the following information:

  • Name
  • Stage of career
  • Firm or organisation (where applicable)
  • Location
  • Position you wish to apply for
  • Why you wish to join the SYLA committee
  • What you will bring to the SYLA

The videos will be shown during the AGM and thereafter voting shall commence (using SurveyMonkey).
