Eventus Law has advised on the transfer of Glasgow-based Paterson Golf to the next generation as part of a planned family succession by way of vendor-induced management buyout (VIMBO).

The transaction sees Fraser Wilson take ownership of the family business from his parents, Brian and Louise Wilson, securing the future of Paterson Golf under family ownership.

Paterson Golf has supplied branded golf accessories to the trade for more than 40 years. Based at its Glasgow headquarters, the business supplies personalised products including headwear, luggage, towels, gifts and promotional merchandise to golf clubs, resorts and corporate customers across the UK and Europe.

Craig Ramsay, partner at Eventus Law, provided the legal advice on the structuring and implementation of the business succession transaction.

Mr Ramsay said: “Paterson Golf is a great Scottish family business and this is exactly the type of succession transaction Eventus specialises in and that we enjoy advising on.

“The structure gives Brian and Louise a clear route towards retirement while keeping the business in the family and giving Fraser the opportunity to take it forward. It was a pleasure helping the Wilson family put that in place and we wish them every success for the next chapter.”

Brian Wilson commented: “After 30 years running Paterson Golf, it was important to Louise and me that we found the right way to hand the business on while protecting what we have built.

“Keeping the business in the family was the ideal outcome and we are delighted that Fraser is taking it forward. It was clear to us very early on that Craig and the team at Eventus are specialists in business succession – they guided us through the process and made the transition straightforward for all of us.”
