Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie LLP (WJM) has promoted real estate expert Ellis Walls to partner.

Mr Walls began his career at Davidson Chalmers Stewart (DCS) as a newly qualified solicitor more than 10 years ago and has since made a significant contribution to the business’ growth and success as a trusted and highly regarded adviser to clients.

Over the past decade Mr Walls has played a key role in major commercial property transactions, from sale and purchase to real estate finance and advising landlords and tenants on commercial leases.

He has advised on a number of high-value transactions, including a recent £8.4 million investment purchase in Aberdeen as well as leading on the property aspects of a £165 million refinancing deal involving a portfolio of more than 20 care homes.

Mr Walls, who is based in Edinburgh, is also the main point of contact for a syndicate of English-based investors, advising on their property interests and transactions in Scotland.

He said: “After more than 10 years with the business, I’m delighted to be taking this next step in my career with WJM and to be joining the partnership.

“I’ve been fortunate to work on an increasingly diverse range of transactions over that time and to build strong, long-standing relationships with clients, which has been a hugely rewarding part of my career.”

He added: “I’m delighted to be taking this next step. It has been hugely rewarding and I look forward to building on these further in my role as partner.”

Fraser Gillies, managing partner at WJM, said: “Ellis’ promotion is thoroughly deserved and reflects the important contribution he makes to the business.

“Since joining as a newly qualified solicitor, he has made consistently strong progress, developing extensive expertise and building trusted relationships with our valued client base. His recent work on a number of complex and high-value transactions demonstrates the calibre of his advice and the increasingly important role he plays within our Real Estate practice.

“During this exciting phase of growth, developing and promoting exceptional talent from within is central to our strategy, while further strengthening our Real Estate offering and reinforcing our commitment to investing in our people as we grow.”
