Dundee University has won the Lord Jones Intervarsity Mooting Competition on the occasion of its 10th anniversary.

Hosted by the University of Dundee Mooting Society at Dundee Law School, the competition follows the format of the Inner Temple Inter-Varsity Moot in London.

The University of Dundee welcomed nine teams from seven universities across Scotland. After five rounds, University of Dundee Team 1, represented by Amy Laird and Amy Smith, narrowly won the competition in a closely fought final against the University of Strathclyde, represented by Sara Akram and Bayann Mazhar.

In giving his decision, Lord Weir, himself an alumnus of Dundee Law School, praised the standard of advocacy displayed by both sides in presenting their arguments around a finely balanced medical negligence problem on informed consent with a particular focus on the Hunter v Hanley test.

This was the first Dundee team was the first to win the competition since 2019. Set up in 2016 in honour of the late Lord Jones, another Dundee Law School alumnus, the competition serves the memory of Lord Jones memory by bridging the gap between academia and legal practice, with students able to develop their advocacy skills through arguing legal points before a range of highly qualified judges and receiving valuable feedback.
