Burges Salmon has promoted four of its Edinburgh-based lawyers, with Claire Logue becoming partner and Lauren Winters, Penny Shannon and Helen Woodford becoming directors.
The independent UK law firm has appointed a total of 13 new partners and 19 new directors with effect from 1 May 2025 in its largest-ever promotions round.
Ms Logue, a member of the firm’s construction and engineering team, is among the new partner cohort.
She specialises in contract delivery, strategic troubleshooting, and dispute resolution for those operating in the construction and engineering sector.
She is dual qualified in England and Wales and in Scotland, and has particular experience representing clients in technically complex, high-value matters, especially within the Scottish market.
Burges Salmon managing partner Roger Bull said: “There’s no better endorsement of the ongoing success of our people-first strategy and dedication to delivering an excellent service to our clients than being able to announce a record number of 13 new partners this year.
“These latest appointments demonstrate our commitment to continue advising clients across a range of strategically important practices and sectors.
“All 13 of these new partners are exceptional lawyers who will have a vital role to play in nurturing the firm’s client relationships and enhancing our unique culture in the years ahead.”
The new directors in Edinburgh are Lauren Winters in the real estate team, Penny Shannon in dispute resolution and Helen Woodford in pensions and lifetime savings.
Ms Winters has a wide range of experience in all types of real estate transactions and specialises in the property aspects of renewable energy projects.
She has extensive experience acting for developers, investors, funders and landowners in connection with energy and infrastructure projects.
She works closely with and co-ordinates input from other disciplines to deliver renewable energy projects.
Ms Shannon advises clients on a wide range of contentious real estate issues, and focuses particularly on advising landlords and corporate occupiers.
She is recognised as having considerable experience dealing with rent reviews, lease interpretation, end of lease and termination issues.
Ms Woodford advises clients across the UK from the firm’s Edinburgh office and her Northumberland home base.
She has specialised in pensions law since qualification over two decades ago and her client base straddles many sectors including energy, manufacturing, retail and transport.
She has also acted for many pension trustee boards and employers operating within the charity and not-for-profit sector.
Alice Bretherton, chief people officer at Burges Salmon, said: “We’re thrilled to announce the appointment of these senior lawyers at the firm.
“The combination of their deep expertise, commitment to delivering an exceptional client experience and embodiment of the firm’s values means the future of the firm is bright.
“These appointments are a testament to Burges Salmon’s dedication to nurturing talent and delivering outstanding service to our clients.
“As we continue to grow, we remain focused on fostering an inclusive and dynamic environment where our people can flourish and make a meaningful impact.”
