Compass Chambers has welcomed the appointment of new silk Barney Ross KC.

Mr Ross is among 16 new King’s Counsel appointed by His Majesty The King on the recommendation of First Minister John Swinney.

The rank of King’s Counsel is generally reserved for those who have distinguished themselves in practice in the Supreme Courts.

Mr Ross specialises in reparation, regulatory and criminal law. In his civil practice, he acts for both pursuers and defenders in fatal and catastrophic injury actions in the Court of Session, including brain and spinal injury claims. He has particular expertise in the specialist areas of clinical negligence, industrial disease and historical child abuse. Mr Ross is instructed in public inquiries, fatal accident inquiries and for the defence in criminal prosecutions relating to health and safety, environmental, maritime, and other regulatory offences
