Balfour and Manson senior associate Michaela Guthrie has gained a Law Society of Scotland accreditation in medical negligence law.

Ms Guthrie joined Balfour and Manson as a trainee in 2014, spending the final year of her traineeship working closely with partner Ann Logan. She has specialised in medical negligence and personal injury work since her qualification in 2016, running cases in both the Court of Session and the All-Scotland Personal Injury Court.

She has considerable experience in complex and high-value cases involving birth injuries sustained by both mother and child, acquired brain injuries, spinal injuries, delay in diagnosis and surgical negligence. She has successfully settled cases involving failures to obtain informed consent.

Ms Guthrie said: “I am delighted to receive Law Society accreditation as a specialist in medical negligence. It is a fascinating area of the law that I am passionate about, and I take pride in achieving excellent results in challenging and complex cases for clients who have suffered life-changing injuries or who have lost loved ones in tragic circumstances.”

Ms Logan said: “Medical negligence has been an area of expertise of this firm for many years, and I am delighted that Michaela’s dedication has been recognised. It is important for us to ensure our team has the appropriate skillsets such as those defined by the Law Society.

“Michaela has worked hard to attain her accreditation, and this helps fulfil her ambition to become an exceptional specialist in medical negligence law. Moreover, it gives prospective clients the immediate benchmark recognition that our team has the experience to handle each case regardless of the complexity and challenges it may bring.”
