AUCEL appoints Eddy Wifa and Mitchell Lennan as new co-directors
Dr Eddy Wifa and Dr Mitchell Lennan have both been appointed as co-directors of the Aberdeen University Centre for Energy Law (AUCEL).
Dr Wifa is a senior lecturer (energy law) at the School of Law, which he joined in 2020 following the completion of his PhD in Marine Renewable Energy Health and Safety Risk Governance.
Since then, he has contributed to teaching and research on a range of topics including Petroleum Resource Governance, Decommissioning, and Low Carbon Energy Transition (Renewable Energy Law). He has equally consulted and advised on related energy law issues. He is a member of the Society of Legal Scholars and co-founder and past director of both the Global South Research Network and the African Natural Resources and Energy Law Network (ANRELN).
Dr Mitchell Lennan joined the University of Aberdeen School of Law as a lecturer in 2022. His teaching and research focus on public international law, with specialisms in the law of the sea and international environmental law.
His work examines how global environmental change affects the regulation of the marine environment. Dr Lennan contributes to the school’s growing profile in marine and environmental law and collaborates across disciplines on research addressing the impacts of climate change on the ocean. He regularly represents the university at United Nations climate meetings and supports the centre’s engagement with international law and policy processes.
