Arnot Manderson welcomes two more newly called advocates

Arnot Manderson Advocates has welcomed Jonathan Murphy and Fergus Whyte to the stable following their admission to the Faculty of Advocates in another historic but socially distant calling ceremony held in Parliament Hall.

Mr Murphy calls to the bar having previously worked at Gildeas Solicitors in Edinburgh as a trainee and solicitor. As a solicitor he dealt primarily with personal injury work, including road traffic accidents and public liability cases, appearing regularly in the Sheriff Court and the All Scotland Personal Injury Court in a wide range of incidental and procedural matters as well as proofs. Mr Murphy also brings to the stable a particular interest in property law, public law, valuation for rating and judicial review.

Before calling to the Scottish bar, Mr Whyte qualified as a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand in 2012. He was a judicial assistant and appeared as an advocate in the higher courts there. An experienced litigator, he arrives with an interest in commercial and public law disputes, intellectual property, data protection and media law, trust law and alternative dispute resolution.

He has considerable experience in courtroom advocacy as well as experience in conducting complex litigation, dealing with expert evidence and managing client relationships.

He has worked in a number of legal roles in Scotland including as a researcher to the Edinburgh Tram Inquiry. He is also an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a former coach of the University of Edinburgh Vis Moot Team. He is a tutor in the law of contract and European Union Law at Edinburgh.

Elizabeth Manderson, practice manager at Arnot Manderson Advocates, said: “We are delighted to welcome Jonathan and Fergus to the Stable today, their presence compliments our other recent additions Kenny Cloggie, Andrew Crosbie and Charles Oliver who called at the end of May. With these new Counsel in our ranks we continue to boast an enviably strong presence at the junior end of the bar.

“Our new members each have invaluable experience in Scotland’s highest courts and beyond and the complete range of work they undertake makes them a perfect fit for our stable.

“A wide range of solicitors and their clients stand to benefit from their availability and all these additions further enhance our reputation as the largest full service stable at the Scottish bar.”
