And finally... the dark side

A woman who was compared to Darth Vader at work has won nearly £30,000 from an employment tribunal.

The NHS blood donation worker had temporarily left a room when her colleagues decided to take a personality quiz which would tell them what Star Wars character they were, the tribunal heard.

On returning to the room, the woman was told that another staff member had taken the quiz on her behalf.

The result was that she had the same personality as the franchise’s famous villain – though her colleagues tried to convince her this was not a bad thing.

An employment judge ruled that the “Darth Vader incident” was a detriment which she suffered due to protected disclosures she had made.

“[The] attempt to argue that being characterised as a Darth Vader personality type had some positive attributes was not successful in persuading us that this was not a detriment – Darth Vader is a legendary villain of the Star Wars series, and being aligned with his personality is insulting,” the employment judge ruled.

“It is little wonder that the claimant was upset by it,” she added.

NHS Blood and Transplant was ordered to pay £16,989.61 to the woman in respect of financial losses and £12,000 by way of compensation for injury to feelings.
