A total of 39kg of bread was dumped over four days from August 14, while 1.3kg of chicken livers was found in five piles on August 19.

The site, near Daisenji Temple and the trailhead for Mount Daisen, lies within Daisen-Oki National Park at an elevation of about 800 metres.

Shoichiro Hiraki, of the Natural Parks Foundation’s Tottori branch, said the food had been conspicuously arranged rather than hidden.

“If wild animals become used to human food and this creates a lure, it could lead to human injuries or traffic accidents,” he said.

Asian black bears and deer are commonly seen in the area.
