The head of a committee dealing with delays in drunk driving prosecutions has been charged with drunk driving – and has seen her own case delayed.

Linsey LaMontagne is director of the Clark County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) in southern Nevada, covering an area including Las Vegas.

She was arrested on 27 April after police were called over a motorist who was “swerving” and “had driven off the road approximately five times”, 8 News Now Vegas reports.

LaMontagne did not appear in court until 26 August due to significant delays in blood-testing, which the CJCC was working with partners to tackle.

She pleaded not guilty in Las Vegas Municipal Court to charges of driving under the influence and reckless driving.

The CJCC has apparently succeeded in reducing delays in such cases. The average waiting time for a blood test has reduced from 55 days in March to 29 days in October.

Courts have responded to the improvement by scheduling hearings for two months after arrest instead of four months.

LaMontagne’s attorney did not respond to 8 News Now Vegas when the outlet asked if she had or would rely on her experience in her work.
