And finally... fashion crime

Chinese fast fashion giant Shein has said it is investigating how a shirt was advertised for sale with a doctored image of Luigi Mangione, the man accused of murdering a healthcare CEO in New York City.

The now removed listing showed a smiling Mangione modelling a short-sleeved shirt in what may have been an AI-generated image, the BBC reports.

“The image in question was provided by a third-party vendor and was removed immediately upon discovery,” a spokesperson for the marketplace said.

“We have stringent standards for all listings on our platform.

“We are conducting a thorough investigation, strengthening our monitoring processes, and will take appropriate action against the vendor in line with our policies.”

Mangione denies murder and stalking charges relating to the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024.

He has nevertheless become an unlikely folk hero among critics of the US healthcare system, who have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to his legal defence.

His lawyers have recently pleaded with members of the public to stop sending him so much fan mail – while “heart-shaped notes” sent by admirers of his good looks have been discussed in court.
