The opening of the London office in Chancery Lane has been driven by increasing demand from London-based clients and law firms referring private clients and international clients facing criminal law charges in the Scottish courts to MTM.

These referral cases from other law firms typically emanate from cases involving high-net worth private individuals, international organisations, companies and professionals.

The news comes as the firm received a tier 1 legal accreditation in the Legal 500 UK 2020. 

MTM director Neil Hay said: “The firm is seeing more and more complex cases where criminal charges are brought against people that can have major impacts on personal and professional lives in cases that often involve family law issues, as well as property and cross-border issues.

“Many of these cases are often referred to us by top Scottish law firms and top London law firms, although we also receive a high volume of direct instructions from private individuals.

“Growth is also being driven by a growing number of complex regulatory cases where large companies and individuals are the subject of criminal law charges that have the potential to be highly damaging to individual reputations and brands if not handled correctly. MTM’s focus here is not just on legal representation and expertise, but also on reputational management.”
