The results of the consultation will be shared with the Scottish Government, contributing to its review of the circular 3/2012.

Alastair McKie, the Law Society’s Planning Law Sub-committee convener, said: “Currently, there are inconsistencies in the practical application of planning obligations. The expert views gathered in this consultation, will shed light on current areas of uncertainty, help to establish the consensus on best practice and inform the Scottish government’s work to drive consistency and reduce delays.

“We are always grateful to our members for taking time to share their views and look forward to working with the Scottish Government on this important initiative.”

Neil Langhorn, from the Scottish government’s Planning and Architecture Division, said: “We’re very pleased that the Law Society is undertaking this consultation and look forward to hearing the conclusions, which will inform our own work on planning obligations and our planned review of Planning Circular 3/2012 next year.”
