A group of Dundee University law students are seeking help as they prepare for an international moot competition.

Katie Sargent, Chloe Smith, Kate Scarborough and Craig McCann have been selected to represent Scotland at next year’s Telders International Law Moot Court Competition.

The moot requires students to work in teams to tackle a complex international law problem. They must research relevant law and construct a robust submission in the form of written memorials and oral presentations.

Teams from over 40 universities will come together at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague next June to present their cases.

The memorials and pleadings are judged by legal experts and judges from the ICJ. The competition demands high standards of legal argument and professionalism from all involved.

The team will be hosting a number of events and participating in challenges to raise funds to cover their expenses, visit their GoFundMe page here.

Katie Sargent, who hails from Canada, studies English law. She has participated in numerous moots and has represented the university on a national level. She hopes to qualify as a barrister and has a particular interest in commercial litigation.

Chloe Smith is a fourth year Scots law student with a passion for mooting. In her time at Dundee she has competed within the university and at national competitions across the UK. She is the current president of the University of Dundee Mooting Society. She hopes to pursue a career in legal advocacy.

Kate Scarborough studies the dual qualifying English and Scots law degree. She organised and ran the DWF Lord Jones Mooting Competition 2019 and also hopes to pursue a career in legal advocacy.

Craig McCann is a final year student studying the dual qualifying English and Scots law degree. Alongside his studies, he works at the Tayside In-Court Advice Project, which has provided him with a rare insight into court work. He plans on qualifying and practising law in Scotland.

The team is being coached by Dr Jacques Hartmann, Samuel White and Charlotte White.
