Fife Council Legal’s Regulation Team is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated solicitor to provide legal support to Fife Council and cover for a colleague on a 12-month temporary absence. The full-time temporary post is in the Miscellaneous Licensing Legal Team and supports the Council’s delivery of the Miscellaneous Licensing function and the Housing Service in the regulation of Short Term Lets and Houses of Multiple Occupation matters.

You will be part of the Regulation Team who support our client services in planning, environmental, licensing, and educational functions, responsible for managing your own case load and able to represent the council in a variety of matters and forums with reference to the regulatory and governance requirements in the delivery of such functions.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to combine a fulfilling and challenging role within a supportive team environment whilst gaining experience of the workings of local government and its legal affairs.

There will be opportunities and support to apply any existing knowledge or experience, and/or develop new skills, in these areas.

As a progressive employer, we offer a “blended working” arrangement with home-working opportunities and occasional office-working as required. While the significant part of the role can and will be carried out remotely, candidates should be able to travel to and attend office locations, committee and other meetings, court, and Tribunal appearances as required.

The Person

The posts will suit candidates with experience in general Litigation and Licensing. Experience in all the above areas is not essential, but a willingness to develop in those areas would be highly desirable. 

You should hold a Law Degree (LLB) and a Diploma in Legal Practice or an equivalent. You also should be a qualified solicitor holding, or eligible to hold, an unrestricted Practicing Certificate issued by the Law Society of Scotland, be able to work under limited supervision with well-developed communication and IT skills.
