Gibson Kerr is a long established, central Edinburgh, legal practice with an established client base, specialising in family law, personal law, residential conveyancing and estate agency. The business is a three-partner firm, with nine other solicitors.  Our main office is at Randolph Crescent, Edinburgh and we have a smaller Glasgow office at 1 West Regent Street. The role is based in our Edinburgh office but we also offer scope for some flexible/agile working. We are a small team of specialists in our individual areas and our emphasis is on providing a quality, personal service to our clients.

The firm is looking for a solicitor with a minimum of 4 years post qualifying experience who specialises in residential conveyancing and who wishes to take a leading role in driving this part of business forward. The role has partnership prospects for the right person.

This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to develop their career within a supportive environment. The successful candidate will have their own caseload and be required to help develop an already expanding department. They will report to Head of Property, Scott Rasmusen. 

The person will have a good working knowledge of the relevant law and experience in a client facing role and have good communication skills. They will be enthusiastic, bright and cheerful – someone who will have a good rapport with clients, colleagues and other solicitors. They will be hardworking and confident. An ability to deliver sound advice to clients in a confident and professional manner is essential. A willingness to promote the services of the business when suitable opportunities arise is important. Management experience would be a definite advantage.

Role Purpose and Core Responsibilities

Job Purpose: Initially a key member of the property team at Gibson Kerr, by carrying out excellent conveyancing work, providing a high quality and efficient conveyancing service and maintaining a high level of client satisfaction and willing to take on management responsibilities in due course.

Qualifications and Skills: Required:

  • Qualified solicitor in Scotland
  • Experience of sale and purchase residential conveyancing and LBTT.
  • Experience of residential estate agency
  • Ability to work without supervision.
  • Ability to work as part of a small team.
  • Computer literate – MS Word, Excel, Internet, email.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Touch typing or
  • Experience of using Dragon Dictate/NaturallySpeaking

Responsibilities: To be a valued member of the property team at Gibson Kerr

Supervisor: Scott Rasmusen, Head of property

Standard expected: Must always abide by the ethical code applicable to Scottish solicitors. Must keep all information relating to clients strictly confidential. Must not voice criticism of other solicitors/organisations to clients/public and must be aware of restrictions on touting for business.

Conditions of Employment: Working hours will be 8.30am till 5pm, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours a week). More may be required from time to time.

Five weeks annual leave is given, plus five days’ public holidays: two days at each of Christmas and New Year and one day on Easter Monday.
