Professional Conduct Operations Manager

£59,259, Permanent, (35 hours per week)

With the Regulation of Legal Services (Scotland) Act 2025 set to reform the way Scottish solicitors are regulated, it is a unique and exciting time to join the Law Society of Scotland.

We have an opportunity within the Professional Conduct Team for an Operations Manager who is a proven people manager and has excellent technical legal skills. This role supports a team responsible for investigating conduct complaints about Scottish solicitors and plays an important part in protecting the public, maintaining confidence in the legal profession and upholding proper professional standards. The role also offers an opportunity to shape and influence the delivery of our conduct complaints handling function in a changing regulatory landscape.

Key Responsibilities for this role

• Lead and support a team of Reporters, ensuring that conduct complaints about solicitors are handled to a high standard in accordance with procedures, standards, deadlines and key measures. This includes providing guidance, supervision, building capacity and addressing any performance issues constructively. 
• Provide support and advice to the team and all staff in the Professional Conduct Team.
• Develop and implement improved processes, policies and practices to ensure work is handled efficiently.
• As a Data Protection Champion within the Professional Conduct Team, work constructively with other Data Protection Champions and the Data Protection Officer to ensure the Law Society fulfils its data protection obligations. This includes handling Subject Access Requests, data retention and disposal, and contributing to effective Freedom of Information implementation. 

Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• A Scottish solicitor with a current practising certificate.
• Significant experience of at least one of the following: professional regulatory or disciplinary proceedings; litigation; or administrative law.
• Experience of managing a team
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent analytical skills and ability to understand and solve complex problem.
