Procurator Fiscal

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) is seeking to appoint a number of outstanding leaders to the role of Procurator Fiscal. These newly revised senior positions are central to delivering our Strategic Plan 2023–27 and represent a unique opportunity to shape the future of prosecution in Scotland.

As Procurator Fiscal, you will be responsible for the leadership and performance of one of COPFS’s key business areas. You will be a visible and engaged leader, accountable for the quality of legal decision-making within your teams and for driving continuous improvement across your function. You will play a vital role in the corporate leadership of COPFS, contributing to the delivery of our strategic aims and ensuring that our services are fair, effective, and responsive to the needs of the public.

You will be expected to build and maintain the confidence of senior criminal justice partners and other key stakeholders, acting as a trusted and influential representative of COPFS. You will champion an inclusive and trauma-informed culture, embedding diversity, equality, and fairness across all aspects of our work. You will also promote a collaborative and learning-focused environment, empowering staff to make accountable decisions and supporting their development through purposeful performance assessment.
To be considered, you must be a solicitor or advocate qualified to practise in Scotland, holding a practising certificate free from any conditions that would be inconsistent with the role. You will bring extensive experience in public prosecution, along with a proven ability to lead in complex and high-pressure environments. You will be a confident and values-driven leader, capable of setting direction, making sound decisions, and delivering results in the face of challenge and change.

You will also demonstrate the ability to build trusted relationships across a wide stakeholder landscape, acting with integrity, empathy, and professionalism. Your commitment to high-quality public service will be evident in your approach to identifying and addressing underperformance, and in your dedication to continuous improvement and innovation.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join the COPFS Senior Leadership Team and make a lasting impact on the justice system in Scotland. If you are ready to lead with purpose and help shape the future of prosecution, we encourage you to apply.
