Full time Hybrid Working - home and at the SWA’s Edinburgh office

The Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) is the trade association for the Scotch Whisky industry. One of its principal aims is to safeguard the Scotch Whisky trade worldwide. This function is carried out by the SWA’s Legal Affairs team, which takes legal action around the world to prevent products being misleadingly sold as Scotch Whisky. It also monitors trade mark applications internationally and opposes those that may be used in a similar misleading manner. The legal team consists of a director, four other intellectual property lawyers and two paralegals.

The position involves a diverse range of work, including the investigation of suspicious products, the preparation of court and administrative actions and the review of trade mark applications worldwide, drafting and revising a range of legal documents, negotiating settlements, advising the SWA’s members on compliance and the development of relevant policy. The successful candidate will focus mainly on the SWA’s work in Asia Pacific and the Americas.

Candidates should be solicitors or advocates/barristers qualified in Scotland or England & Wales, with up to 3 years PQE. Civil litigation experience and an interest in intellectual property law are desirable. Excellent negotiation and communication skills, attention to detail, an ability to work in a collaborative manner and strong IT skills are required.

Salary from £48,000 for newly qualified and otherwise dependent on experience.
