Claims Manager

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Claims Manager to join our Claims Handling team within the Member, Cases and Claims division.

In this role, you will proactively manage a clinical negligence claims portfolio, applying strong strategic thinking and efficient case handling to deliver positive outcomes for members and the business. This opportunity suits either a qualified solicitor looking to move in-house or an experienced Claims Handler seeking a fresh challenge. You will manage a varied caseload of medical and dental claims, working closely with members, internal colleagues and external panel firms.

You will be part of a multi‑disciplinary team and success in this role relies on building strong, collaborative relationships. You’ll work alongside Claims Assistants, Claims Managers, Technical Consultants and other internal teams, while also maintaining effective partnerships with panel firms to ensure high service standards and performance. The ability to prioritise effectively and work proactively across a busy caseload is essential.

Supported by a structured technical development framework, you will have opportunities to expand your portfolio across different levels of complexity, value, disciplines and jurisdictions. You will also play a role in coaching and supporting colleagues.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage claims end‑to‑end, assessing liability, costs and apportionment
  • Develop and implement proportionate case strategies
  • Maintain accurate claims estimates
  • Obtain evidence, commission experts and counsel as required
  • Draft Letters of Response and protocol documentation
  • Lead settlement negotiations and utilise ADR where appropriate
  • Work closely with in‑house and panel solicitors to resolution

The ideal candidate

You will have proven experience in clinical negligence or related litigation, strong analytical and negotiation skills, and the confidence to challenge panel advice where necessary. You’ll be comfortable managing both dental and medical claims of varying complexity, balancing competing priorities, and demonstrating empathy in your communications, with ambition to develop across multiple jurisdictions.
