Assistant Auditor of Court

Location: Office of the Auditor of the Court of Session, Parliament House, Edinburgh.

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

Hours of Work: 37 hours per week

You will work closely with the Auditor of the Court of Session in scrutinising the reasonableness of the items claimed as judicial expenses to be awarded by the court.  In conjunction with your fellow assistant auditor you may supervise up to 2 staff who provide administrative support within the auditor’s office.

You will have experience in justifying the fees charged by legal professionals on either an agent and client basis, or on a party and party basis.  Your skills will support you checking the charges made and assessing their reasonableness.

Experience required for the post – Ideally you will have reasonable experience compiling the fees charged by solicitors and advocates; gained in the role of a law accountant, lawyer, paralegal or similar. You will have a good initial understanding of the court rules on taxation of expenses, and the regulated tables of solicitor’s fees, as they support the determination of the expenses awarded by the court.  You may have some experience of managing staff.
