Sessions Outline

Northern Ireland/Republic of Ireland Succession Law Issues:

The speakers will provide their perspectives on the key areas of succession in their respective jurisdictions, including the position of spouses and children, intestacy, the use of trusts, administration of estates and tax considerations.

Tax Developments:

Alan Barr will be considering key tax developments and the impact for private client practitioners.

Trauma-Informed Private Client Practice:

This panel session will look at where trauma informed practice crosses over with private client. Whether it’s dealing with the estate of someone who has died in traumatic circumstances, administering a trust for a vulnerable beneficiary who has suffered trauma, advising clients who are experiencing grief or trauma, these are all soft skills we need to wary of, and as practitioners need to consider how we deal with the vicarious trauma of these situations.

Corporate Issues in Private Client: Understanding Corporate Law Structures:

This presentation will provide a refresher on private companies limited by shares and a deeper dive into some of the relevant provisions of private company articles of association and shareholders’ agreements.

Corporate Issues in Private Client: Valuation of Corporate Entities:

This session will focus on the importance of valuation, which will be a key focus following the changes to Business Property Relief from Inheritance Tax.
