Top speakers at BIICL event on commercial contracts

The British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) is holding an online event this Friday to highlight some of the practical applications of the ideas found in two concept notes on the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on commercial contracts.

These argued amongst other measures for a much greater degree of negotiation between parties, undertaking mediation or other alternative dispute resolution methods and ensuring these contracts were always brought to an end in an equitable way.

The speakers will look at specific dispute resolution options such as the newly launched Pandemic Business Dispute Resolution Service which CEDR and CIArb have developed in response to BIICL’s research to provide for quick resolution of such disputes through the use of assisted negotiation, mediation and fast track arbitration.

The speakers for the event are:

  • Sir William Blair, former judge in charge of the Commercial Court
  • James South, managing director, Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR)
  • Catherine Dixon, director general, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators
  • Prof. Dr. Malik Dahlan, BIICL trustee and Queen Mary University of London
  • Eva Lein, University of Lausanne and BIICL
  • Wolf von Kumberg, IDR London
